Paducah, KY – It’s World Kindness Day and today several collaborative groups are putting their creative heads and hearts together to create a visible symbol of kindness and community.
 
Paducah Bank, MAKE and the Guess Foundation are sponsoring a teen mural to promote the idea that kindness matters in the Paducah/McCracken County and communities all across our region.  The teens created and painted metal flowers that will sit in front of the mural and will provide an enhanced experience for those visiting it. 
 
“The mission of the mural is for our young people to lead with the message that kindness truly does matter,” said Susan Guess, Senior Vice President of Marketing at Paducah Bank. “Kindness can change lives. It can promote peace. It can bring people of all ages together in a way that transcends socio-economic barriers and cultural restrictions. It can be as simple as smiling and saying hello to someone. And it can have a lasting impact in our lives.”
 
Paducah Bank’s Teen Ambassadors, a group of high school students from around the region, have led this effort for the past couple of years. The group represents 11 schools in western Kentucky and southern Illinois. They have come together to create a mural with the guidance of Kijsa Housman, owner of MAKE, in downtown Paducah. MAKE has also provided the space for the placement of the mural.
 
“This is a perfect fit with our philosophy at Paducah Bank,” added Mardie Herndon, Paducah Bank president. “Our culture focuses on the wellbeing of our team at the bank. We’ve created an approach called WOW!Being. The three pillars of this philosophy include innovation, kindness, and compassion. We believe this kindness mural, led by our Teen Ambassadors, aligns with our commitment to create a culture focused on a compassionate workplace. We are committed to showing our young citizens that Paducah Bank leads with kindness and will support their efforts to do the same.”
 
“This kind of special project brings all of us together as a team, even though we are from so many different schools,” said St. Mary High School senior Abby Hatton. “It’s so great to get to know new people from around our community and to come together to bring a message of kindness to each other and to everyone who sees our kindness mural. Every step we can each take toward making someone else feel included is so worth it.”
 
Paducah Bank Teen Ambassador Morgan Guess, a McCracken County High School junior and co-founder of the Guess Foundation believes the mural represents a powerful message that young people can be the changemakers to lead the kindness movement. “We believe we are the generation that will stand up for kindness and show that it can make a meaningful difference in our schools, in our workplaces and all across our communities.” 
 
The group will host a ribbon cutting at 4 p.m. at MAKE (628 Broadway). The public is invited, and hot cocoa will be on hand.
